- Shaftless Spiral Conveyors
Al Khumrah is the largest wastewater treatment plant in operation in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It is located in the southern part of Jeddah, within the industrial area of the Al Khumrah District. The facility comprises four existing phases with a combined treatment capacity of approximately 250,000 m³/day.
For the latest plant upgrade, SPIRAC, in collaboration with Watequin, supplied the complete sludge handling, storage, and truck outloading systems. The project scope included two 200 m³ silos, fabricated in 316 stainless steel, equipped with high‑capacity sliding frame outloading systems, also constructed entirely from 316SS.
The solution also included two shaftless screw conveyor trains, each featuring a 15‑metre vertical lift from the centrifuge plant to the silo inlets. The conveyor troughs were likewise fabricated completely from 316 stainless steel to ensure maximum durability and corrosion resistance in the coastal/desert environment.
All supporting steel structures for the installation were supplied as hot‑dip galvanised, providing long-term protection and extended service life.
This integrated design ensures effective odour and mess containment, high reliability, low maintenance requirements, reduced power consumption, and robust performance under harsh environmental conditions.
The system has been operating reliably for many years, delivering effective odour and mess containment, high reliability, low maintenance requirements, reduced power consumption, and consistent performance under demanding environmental conditions.
