As part of Severn Trent’s AMP7 transformational strategy, SPIRAC is proud to have supplied advanced grit removal equipment to a significant sewage treatment works upgrade project in the UK. The project, led by Severn Trent, is focused on meeting stringent new regulatory requirements under the Water Framework Directive.
SPIRAC provided two key technologies for the site: the SPIROSEP® Grit Vortex and the SANDSEP® Grit Classifier. These systems are designed to efficiently remove grit and fine particles from wastewater, protecting downstream processes and improving overall plant performance.
The project involved the complete redesign of an existing treatment facility. Serving a population equivalent of over 5,000, the site required a robust and sustainable solution to meet new discharge consents, including a challenging 3mg/l ammonia and 0.2mg/l phosphorus limit.
SPIRAC’s grit removal solutions were selected for their proven reliability, low maintenance requirements, and ability to handle variable flow conditions. The SPIROSEP® Grit Vortex provides high-efficiency grit separation in a compact footprint, while the SANDSEP® ensures effective dewatering and classification of the captured grit.
This project exemplifies Severn Trent’s commitment to innovation and sustainability. By bringing design capabilities in-house and leveraging digital tools, the utility has set a new benchmark for efficient and environmentally conscious infrastructure development.

SPIRAC was asked to design, manufacture and install equipment at the Veviba abattoir in Belgium to be able to increase their capacity to 200 cows per day and to reduce costs. The expansion of the plant had to be completed within 6 weeks.
THE SOLUTION
